Chuck McMillan Chief of Police BENEFITS Police Officer Salary: $3,539 to $4,319 per month Retirement: Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS), fully paid by City, 3% at 55. Health/Dental/Vision Insurance: City pays 100% of premium for employee and 75% of dependent coverage premium. Life Insurance: City pays for $10,000 Life and $20,000 AD&D Insurance. Bilingual Pay: City pays extra $40 per month when second language is used in employment. Vacation Pay: Accrual for full-time sworn employees: 1-5 yrs: 168 hours; 6-15 yrs: 208 hours; over 15 yrs: 248 hours per year. Holiday Pay: 9 days + 2 floating days per year. Sick Leave: Earned at a rate of 12 days per year (96 hours). Special Assignment Pay: 5% for FTO, OIC; 7½% for Traffic, K-9 Officer, Detective. Educational Pay: Intermediate certificate, associate degree, advanced certificate, bachelor degree, and master degree each earn an additional 2.5% of base pay. Annual Uniform Allowance: $900 per year Take-Home Cars: Officers who live within the city are permitted to take their car home. MISSION STATEMENT The members of the Porterville Police Department are committed to the safety and security of the community while providing quality service with excellence, honesty, and integrity. "Serving Our Community" Police officers are generally assigned to the Patrol or Investigations Divisions. Within the Divisions are many specialty units including K-9 Officer, Motorcycle Officer, Field Training Officer, Officer in Charge, Special Investigations Unit (narcotics and gangs), School Resource Officer, Hostage Negotiation Team, and SWAT Team. These units provide our officers with opportunities for expanded training and expertise. Police officers may be assigned to one of these units as full-time assignments or as an adjunct to their primary assignment. The Porterville Police Department prides itself in being a service-oriented agency using a Community Oriented Policing mode.
